The 14th Annual Area-Wide Middle School Book Battle was held this morning. Teams from Holman, Pattonville Heights and Remington Traditional competed with 21 other schools. The event also featured three different author visits.
Pattonville's virtual District Appreciation Night ceremony was held on May 3. The event, which celebrates staff and volunteers who make a difference in supporting Pattonville students and schools, included pre-recorded video as well as live surprise announcements of the district's Teacher and Support Staff of the Year honorees for 2021.

Pattonville High School is ranked among the top high schools in Missouri and the nation on U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 Best High Schools list. Pattonville ranked as No. 37 out of 603 high schools in Missouri, placing it in the Top 6% of high schools in the state. Nationally, the high school was ranked in the Top 19% of high schools. This is the eighth time Pattonville earned a spot on U.S. News’ Best High Schools list in the last nine years.
All in-person and virtual SIGMA students at Pattonville Heights Middle School participated in Model UN virtual sessions this week hosted by Civitas. Today, the eighth graders taught by gifted teacher Lori Kappler met with 80 other students from area schools to participate in a mock UN General Assembly. Gifted students taught by Christina Elkins at Holman Middle School also participated in the event.
Model UN is an activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. It challenges students to develop and utilize their research, public speaking, debate, and writing skills, as well as their critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
The administrative team behind Pattonville’s Pirate Academy was chosen to receive the 2021 Trailblazer Spirit Leader Award by the Institute for Personalized Learning. The Pattonville team was selected based on their dedication to personalized learning and for embodying the “Trailblazer Spirit.” The administrative team for the Pirate Academy at Holman Middle School includes Holman principal Dr. Sarah Moran, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning Dr. Tina Plummer, director of innovation and life readiness Odetta Smith and director of secondary education Dr. Cara Hiripitiyage. The team was nominated by Maegan Bowersox, who teaches in the Pirate Academy alongside fellow teacher Emily Difani.
